Change The World: Volume 1 Issue 1: Garbage Disposal
So this might seem like a strange blog to post and I'm sure that a lot of people have done it before, but I feel the need to educate some people out there. Think about it! There are hundreds of things that you could do daily that could make our world a better place. Not just for now but for the future. Some people just want to destroy it and that's fine too just as long as they start with themselves. So I'm going to write as many blogs as I can think of that are my ideas on how we can change the world a little bit without politics, without religion, and without some major social reform. Just people making changes. I would love it if you'd comment or kudos any blog, add your own suggestions, or tell me that I'm dumb as often as you'd like. Maybe it will help. So here's the first one...
Start little. You can save the planet by recycling more but that is kind of a big task unless you have a service in your neighborhood. So what about just making sure you dispose of things correctly. For instance if you have a garbage disposal in your sink use that for organic wastes when cooking or cleaning the kitchen. Most people will pour unused soda down the drain but are less likely to put potatoes peels down the drain for fear of breaking the 120 V, 60 Hz grinder that is already installed in the sink (with enough force to liquidate a watermelon with ease). But if you choose to do this simple thing, you'll help the environment a lot. Tons of wasted food gets put in dumpsters and adds to landfills. When you put it down your sink it goes to the same place as when you flush the toilet or use the shower: back into the ground (indirectly). Then it has time to degrade and go back to the earth. Not only that but seeds will be spread over a larger area instead of just going to a landfill. Most sinks disposals can't process tough stuff like fats but they can do almost anything else. So think about it. Another good reason to do this is because organic waste stinks as it decomposes. When you put it down the drain and grind it up you don't have it in your kitchen doing that. You don't have to empty the trash every day because of the smell. You don't have to buy sanitizers and fragrances or other chemicals to cover it up. At least not for that reason anyway.
So think about it. Maybe you'll make the world a better place and grow some new trees in the process!
